Mobile Headlight Restoration in Los Angeles

Headlights are polycarbonate with a factory-applied UV hardcoat. Sunlight breaks that coating down, and once it fails the plastic underneath oxidizes — first hazy, then yellow, eventually crazed with fine cracks.

Los Angeles accelerates this. High UV index most of the year plus cars that live outside means lenses here often look ten years old at six. The output loss is real: a badly oxidized lens scatters light instead of projecting it, which matters on unlit canyon roads and during marine-layer mornings.

Restoration at your home or office

Both lenses are typically done in about ninety minutes in your driveway or parking spot. Nothing is removed from the vehicle and the car can be driven immediately afterward.

How lens restoration actually works

Masking

Surrounding paint, trim and rubber are taped off. Sanding a lens next to unmasked paint is how people end up with sand marks on a bumper.

Progressive wet sanding

We start with the grit needed to cut through the failed hardcoat and oxidation, then step up through finer grits. Skipping grits is what leaves the cloudy, milky look some restorations end up with.

Machine polishing

The sanding haze is polished out with a compound and finishing pad until the lens is optically clear again.

UV sealing

This is the step that determines longevity. Bare polished polycarbonate with no coating will yellow again quickly — often within months. We apply a dedicated UV-resistant sealant so the repair holds.

When restoration isn't the right answer

If moisture is condensing inside the lens, the housing seal has failed and polishing the outside won't help. Deep crazing that has penetrated well into the plastic, internal reflector damage, and cracked housings all point toward replacement.

We check for these before quoting so you're not paying for a service that can't deliver.

Worth pairing with other work

Clear lenses on a car with oxidized paint tend to highlight the contrast. Many owners have headlight restoration done alongside an exterior hand wash and wax, or as part of a broader paint correction on an older vehicle. Tail lights and fog lights can be restored using the same process.
